Terms and Guidelines for Receiving a Marble Slab Shipment

To ensure the integrity of the marble slab shipment and protect both the distributor and manufacturer, it is essential to follow a standardized inspection and handling process upon delivery. These guidelines outline the steps to take once the shipment arrives:

    1. Inspect Shipment Upon Arrival

    • Examine Exterior Packaging: Before unloading, inspect the container or crate exterior for any visible signs of damage. Look for holes, dents, or signs of mishandling that may indicate potential slab damage.
    • Check Shipping Documents: Review all paperwork (such as the bill of lading) to confirm that the shipment matches the order specifications, including quantity, slab dimensions, and material type.

    2. Unloading and Handling Precautions

    • Use Proper Equipment: Only use equipment designed to handle heavy slabs, such as forklifts with stone clamps or lifting devices specifically meant for marble. Avoid using makeshift tools, as they could compromise slab safety.
    • Keep the Slabs Upright: Transport slabs in a vertical position to minimize the risk of breakage or cracking. Always keep slabs supported and stabilized to prevent any sudden movements or falls.

    3. Thorough Product Inspection

    • Visual Inspection: After unloading, examine each slab for cracks, chips, scratches, or discolorations. Record and photograph any visible damage, as this will be crucial for filing a claim if necessary.
    • Measure Dimensions: Confirm that the slab dimensions and thickness match the order requirements. This can prevent future issues with installation.

    4. Document and Report Damage Immediately

    • Photographic Evidence: Take clear, high-resolution photos of any damaged slabs from multiple angles. Include photos of both the damaged slab and the packaging.
    • Notify Manufacturer Promptly: Report any issues to the manufacturer within [typically 24-48 hours] of delivery, along with supporting photos and documentation. This timeline is essential to maintain the validity of any damage claims.

    5. Storage Guidelines

    • Store in a Dry, Stable Area: After inspection, store marble slabs in a clean, dry environment that is shielded from moisture, extreme temperatures, and direct sunlight.
    • Upright Positioning: Keep slabs stored in an upright position, using proper A-frames or racks for stability, to avoid warping or cracking.

    6. Adherence to Manufacturer’s Warranty Terms

    • Review Warranty Details: Understand the warranty terms provided by the manufacturer, which often cover manufacturing defects but exclude damage caused by mishandling or improper storage.
    • Follow Manufacturer’s Care Instructions: Ensure compliance with any additional handling or storage instructions provided by the manufacturer to avoid voiding the warranty.

By following these terms and guidelines, distributors can protect the manufacturer from liability arising from improper handling while ensuring that any potential issues are promptly addressed and documented for claims.
